The Imo State Government has released an update on the 2023/2024 teachers’ recruitment exercise, confirming that 6,500 successful candidates have been shortlisted for training. The announcement was made through the Imo State Universal Education Board (IMSUBEB) in collaboration with the Ministry of Primary and Secondary Education, Secretariat Complex, Owerri.
In the official notification, the government clarified the status of the candidates. “Those whose names are published were interviewed in 2024 and are now scheduled to undergo training at the Benjamin Uwajumogu College of Education. They have not been offered employment yet, but the process leading to their engagement has commenced,” the statement explained.
Authorities noted that the names of the selected candidates can be checked at the Local Government Education Secretary’s Office in all 27 LGAs. In addition, the full list has been published in the Statesman Newspaper between Monday, September 22, 2025, and Friday, September 26, 2025.
Candidates are expected to take part in a compulsory accreditation exercise, with dates to be announced in due course. During accreditation, they must present valid documents including birth certificates, academic credentials, and recognized government-issued identification such as Driver’s Licence, Voter’s Card, or international passport.
“All shortlisted individuals must attend the accreditation exercise when the timetable is made public. Participation is compulsory,” the notification stressed.
The training will last for six weeks and will be divided into three cohorts, based on senatorial zones. Each group will undergo a one-week session, and all trainees will be accommodated in the college hostel throughout the program.
