The Chairman of the Ekiti State Teaching Service Commission (TSC), Mrs Rhoda Ojo, has reaffirmed the commission’s commitment to employing only capable and suitably qualified teachers and staff into public secondary schools in the ongoing recruitment exercise.
Speaking in her office in Ado-Ekiti while hosting members of the Ekiti State House of Assembly Committee on Education, Mrs Ojo stated that the commission had put in place strict measures to ensure that credible and professional teachers are recruited. She stressed that the era of half-baked personnel handling and mentoring pupils in public schools is over, noting that the future of secondary school students must not be compromised for any reason.
Mrs Ojo also addressed the delay in the payment of car and housing loans to staff, explaining that it was due to the increase in the amount payable to beneficiaries and the low revolving funds. She assured that payments would be made in no distant time. She further disclosed that the commission had resolved the backlog of inherited crises related to revalidation and the 2022/2023 promotion exercise, adding that the conversion and inter-cadre transfer for deserving staff would be concluded within the next one week.
She commended the state House of Assembly for the speedy passage of the bill establishing the Ekiti State Secondary Schools Board, which she said is expected to commence operations soon.
The Permanent Secretary of the commission, Mr Michael Boluwade, denied rumours that letters of appointment had already been issued to some applicants. He described the allegations as the handiwork of faceless individuals aiming to malign the commission and blackmail the present administration. Boluwade revealed that the final results of the written examination are currently being collated and will be released early next week, after which successful applicants will be contacted for the last phase of the recruitment process.
In his remarks, the Chairman of the House of Assembly Committee on Education, Hon Adeyemi Awoniyi, praised the commission’s leadership for establishing a transparent recruitment process and for the mature approach taken in handling challenges during the exercise. He pledged that the House committee would continue to support the commission’s activities and recommend assistance when necessary to guarantee quality education in Ekiti State.
