The World Bank Group (WBG) has officially launched the application period for the 2026 WBG Africa Fellowship Program, targeting young, talented Ph.D. candidates and recent graduates from Sub-Saharan Africa. The program is designed to offer hands-on development experience and an opportunity to work with one of the world’s leading financial institutions.
“This is a unique opportunity for young African scholars to contribute directly to development solutions in Africa,” the WBG Africa region stated. “The future of Africa lies in its youth, and we believe in your potential.”
The fellowship places selected candidates in a six-month assignment at the World Bank headquarters in Washington D.C. or in one of its country offices. Fellows will work directly with experts in operations, policy, and research, allowing them to strengthen their professional skills in a real-world environment. This program supports global development goals, capacity building, and financial inclusion.
Eligibility requirements include being a national of a Sub-Saharan African country, having strong analytical and quantitative skills, fluency in English, and being under the age of 32 at the time of application deadline. Applicants must be in their final Ph.D. year or have completed their doctorate within the past three years.
“We strongly encourage women to apply,” the statement emphasized, noting the importance of inclusive participation.
Applications close on August 25, 2025. Interested candidates can apply through the official portal: https://wbgfellowship.worldbank.org.
