Sokoto Gov Approves Committee to Recruit Indigenes into Civil Service

The Governor of Sokoto State, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, PhD, FCNA, FCIT, has given approval for the constitution of a committee that will supervise the recruitment of qualified indigenes into the State Civil Service. This initiative is targeted at reducing unemployment and curbing youth restiveness, which the Governor linked to the spread of informants’ syndrome and the rising insecurity across the state.

Speaking on the development, Governor Aliyu noted that the new measure was designed to create job opportunities and strengthen state institutions. “Our administration is determined to open up employment opportunities for Sokoto youths as a way of addressing insecurity and improving governance,” he said.

The recruitment committee is chaired by Alh. Jelani Kalgo. Other members are Amb. Sahabi Isa Gada mni, Alh. Bature Shinkafi, Alh. Muh’d Bello Nagwari, Prof. Ladan Ala, Commissioner for Basic and Secondary Education, Dr. Faruk A. Wurno, Commissioner for Health, the Permanent Secretary of the Civil Service Commission, the Permanent Secretary of the Local Governments Service Commission, and Barr. Gandi Umar Mohammad, mni, who will act as both Member and Secretary.

The committee’s assignment covers setting clear criteria for selecting candidates, collating and reviewing applications, shortlisting applicants, conducting interviews, and making recommendations on those found eligible. They are also mandated to submit a detailed report within one month of their appointment.

According to the directive, the entire process is expected to be transparent and efficient, with a focus on filling existing vacancies across state ministries, departments, and agencies, thereby creating sustainable employment for Sokoto indigenes.
