The University of Port Harcourt has opened applications for its latest round of staff recruitment, calling on suitably qualified Nigerians to apply for teaching, administrative, junior cadre, and medical roles. The announcement confirmed that the recruitment drive is wide-ranging, with opportunities for both academic and non-academic professionals.
In the official statement, the institution explained, “Applications for massive recruitment are hereby invited from suitably qualified candidates, for the under-listed positions in the University of Port Harcourt.”
For the academic category, the advertised posts include Professor, Associate Professor, Senior Lecturer, Lecturer I, Lecturer II, Assistant Lecturer, Graduate Assistant, and Assistant Librarian.
In the non-teaching and junior staff category, available roles span across finance, administration, technical support, and clerical duties. They include positions such as Deputy Bursar, Chief Accountant, Principal Assistant Registrar, Senior Assistant Registrar, Principal Accountant, Chief Computer Programmer, Assistant Registrar, Accountant I, Administrative Officer, Legal Officer I, Technologist I, System Analyst I, Higher Works Superintendent, Data Processing Officer I, Accountant II, Data Processing Officer II, Senior Assistant Technologist, Administrative Assistant, Assistant Executive Officer, Senior Technical Assistant I, Assistant Works Superintendent, Executive Officer (Accounts), Computer Operator II, Senior Clerical Officer, Hall Supervisor, Laboratory Assistant, Craftsman, Clerical Officer, Assistant Clerical Officer, and Senior Porter.
In addition, the medical section of the recruitment advert listed Medical Officer as the open position.
The University also provided general entry requirements for each category of applicants. For academic staff, the expectations include a relevant Bachelor’s, Master’s, or PhD depending on the post, alongside teaching or professional experience in a recognized institution. Applicants must also show capacity for research and publications where necessary and meet the minimum years of service for the role they are applying for.
For non-teaching staff, the required qualifications vary from First Degree, HND, or OND for senior positions to secondary school certificates or equivalent for junior cadre roles. An NYSC discharge, exemption, or exclusion certificate is mandatory where applicable. Evidence of work experience in public service or the private sector is also expected, with professional memberships required for some positions. Junior-level applicants may apply with SSCE, NECO, NABTEB, or First School Leaving Certificate in addition to relevant trade tests or certifications.
In the medical category, candidates must hold a recognized medical degree, be duly registered with the Nigerian Medical and Dental Council, provide their NYSC certificate, and meet the minimum post-registration experience required for the job.
The application process is strictly online. The institution said, “Interested candidates are requested to visit careers.uniport.edu.ng to sign up, login and submit their applications with detailed curriculum vitae and certificates, not later than six (6) weeks from the date of this publication. Please note that only degrees and certificates awarded by Government approved institutions will be recognized.”
