The National Examinations Council has alerted Nigerians to beware of a fake recruitment advertisement making rounds online.

In a statement released on Wednesday, the council’s Director of Information and Public Relations, Azeez Sani, dismissed the claims of an ongoing employment exercise, stressing that NECO is not recruiting. He described the publication as a ploy by fraudsters to mislead the public.

According to him, “The attention of the National Examinations Council (NECO) has been drawn to an online publication purporting that the Council is planning to recruit new staff. The Council enjoins members of the public to disregard the publication as it has no plan to recruit new staff. The publication is the product of the imagination of fraudsters who are out to defraud unsuspecting members of the public.”

While warning against falling victim to scams, NECO clarified that the only genuine opportunity currently available is the registration for Computer Based Centre Operators. The registration is ahead of the Computer Based Examination (CBE) for the 2025 November/December Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE) External, as the council moves away from the traditional pen and paper method.

Sani added that, “NECO, under the able leadership of the Registrar/Chief Executive, Prof. Dantani Ibrahim Wushishi, will always adhere to due process and relevant extant laws when the Federal Government approves staff recruitment.”

The council urged applicants and the general public to always confirm recruitment information from its official communication channels to avoid being deceived by criminal elements.
