ActionAid Nigeria has announced a job opening for the position of Sponsorship Finance Coordinator in Abuja. The organisation, which is part of ActionAid International, is committed to fighting poverty and injustice globally. ActionAid International is a non-governmental organisation registered in The Netherlands with its headquarters in Johannesburg, South Africa. The organisation works in over 40 countries across Africa, Asia, Europe, and the Americas.
The role is designed for an experienced professional to manage the financial operations of ActionAid’s local child sponsorship initiative. According to ActionAid, “S/he will take a lead on the local child sponsorship initiative in terms of designing implementation of appropriate system of accounting and internal control.”
The Sponsorship Finance Coordinator will be responsible for coordinating the financial implementation plan of the local child sponsorship programme in specific locations as determined by ActionAid Nigeria. The selected candidate will ensure that the systems in place are effective, efficient, and in compliance with all legal and financial standards.
The job also involves maintaining the financial and legal integrity of ActionAid Nigeria under the organisation’s policies and local laws. “This position involves a full range of financial control and coordination activities,” the announcement noted.
In addition to operational duties, the postholder will support strategic decisions related to both the Local Rights Programme and the broader sponsorship administration. They will also contribute to strategic plans through quantitative performance measures and indicators.
Requirements
i. First degree in Finance/Accounting is essential.
ii. Nationally recognized Professional Accounting Qualification is essential.
iii. Masters’ degree in relevant studies is desirable.
iv. At least 7 years’ post NYSC experience, inclusive of at least 4 years post professional qualification experience is essential.
v. Experience in implementing financial control systems is essential.
vi. Experience in using Accounting Software, Systems & Spreadsheets is essential.
vii. Experience in working with International development agencies in a similar position is desirable.
viii. Experience of working in a multi-cultural environment is desirable.
ix. Audit firm experience is desirable.
x. Excellent management & leadership skills
xi. Excellent skills in facilitation and capacity building for inter-linkages between staff, partners & stakeholders
xii. Excellent interpersonal and communications
xiii. Accuracy and attention to details
xiv. Negotiation skills
xv. High sense of integrity
xvi. Ability to interface effectively with other members of staff and solve problems using own initiative.
