The Police Service Commission (PSC) has issued a strong warning against any attempt to engage in recruitment fraud or racketeering as preparations begin for the next round of hiring into the Nigeria Police Force (NPF). The upcoming recruitment exercise will include Cadet Assistant Superintendents of Police (ASPs) and Inspectors.

DIG Hashimu Salihu Argungu (rtd), mni, Chairman of the Police Service Commission, gave the warning during a courtesy visit to the Acting Executive Chairman of the Federal Character Commission (FCC), Hon. Kayode Oladele Esq, and his management team on Wednesday, July 30, 2025.

Argungu, who was accompanied by Justice Paul Adamu Galumje, Honourable Commissioner representing the Judiciary in the PSC, cautioned that any form of “unacceptable behaviour, sharp practices or untoward acts during the recruitment processes will be resisted and deviants sanctioned.”

Though a specific date for the recruitment has not yet been announced, the PSC Chairman emphasized the importance of early collaboration with key stakeholders like the Federal Character Commission to ensure a clean and credible process. He said, “There can’t be a better time to seek the partnership and cooperation of the Federal Character Commission as one of the reliable and pivotal stakeholders in the Police recruitment process.”

DIG Argungu stressed that the recruitment must be free from manipulation and bias. “There must be transparency, accountability and equity in the recruitment process. The issue of discretion, waiver, or replacement negates the principle of fairness and equity and so must be totally avoided,” he stated.

On his part, Hon. Kayode Oladele welcomed the PSC delegation, noting that the visit represented a strong example of inter-agency collaboration and a commitment to fairness and national cohesion. He said, “By working together to ensure fairness and balanced representation in law enforcement institutions, we are laying the foundation for a stronger sense of belonging, trust in public institutions, and sustainable peace across the country.”

Oladele also highlighted the role of diversity and inclusion in strengthening the nation’s security framework. “A diverse and inclusive Police Force is better positioned to build public confidence, deter insecurity, and serve all citizens without bias thereby reinforcing the pillars of the Renewed Hope Agenda,” he said.

The FCC Chairman reaffirmed the Commission’s readiness to work with the PSC to monitor compliance with federal character guidelines.

He expressed optimism that this collaboration would contribute significantly to national development. “We are confident that this partnership will go a long way in serving the best interests of Nigeria and Nigerians in general,” he added.
