Abuja, Nigeria – The Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) has officially announced that fresh housemanship slots for federal hospitals will be available on the MDCN portal starting Wednesday, 23rd July 2025.

This notice is directed to all newly inducted medical and dental practitioners seeking placements across federal training institutions in Nigeria.

According to the Council, all eligible candidates are expected to log on to the housemanship portal at www.housemanship.mdcn.gov.ng once they receive their provisional registration certificate during their induction. The MDCN noted, “This will grant you access to apply for housemanship positions at any of the 46 Federal training institutions nationwide, under the management of the MDCN.”

Applicants are reminded not to bypass the centralized process. The statement warns that, “It is important to refrain from directly contacting or sending application letters to Federal institutions and to MDCN, either personally or through proxies (even parents), as this is considered a contravention under the Centralized Housemanship Placement System.” Violating this policy may result in restricted access to the online application portal.

The update specifically applies to the 46 federal hospitals accredited for housemanship placements. Each of these facilities has a set number of housemanship slots, based on the council’s training standards. MDCN clarified, “If a hospital of your choice is not showing, it is because no vacancy exists in that hospital.”

While the centralized system only manages placements for federal hospitals, there are also 70 non-federal institutions—including state, military, and private facilities—where housemanship positions may be available. The MDCN encourages applicants interested in those to reach out to such institutions directly. The council emphasized, “Applicants are advised to directly approach these institutions for further information on available opportunities.”

To help candidates, the council has shared resources for more guidance. The list of approved hospitals under the centralized system can be found on the MDCN website via https://mdcn.gov.ng/page/housemanship/list-of-approved-housemanship-centers-currently-covered-by-the-centralized-posting012. Additional insight on how the centralized housemanship scheme functions is also available at https://mdcn.gov.ng/page/housemanship/how-it-works. Furthermore, a complete list of all accredited hospitals across federal, state, military, and private categories can be accessed through https://mdcn.gov.ng/page/education/approved-housemanship-training-institutions-as-at-august-2024.

The MDCN reaffirmed that this housemanship opportunity is strictly for medical and dental practitioners, and encourages all eligible candidates to stay updated.
